Smear Tests

Cervical smears are a simple and painless procedure recommended for all women aged 25 to 64 years of age, and is carried out by our Practice Nurses. The Scottish Cervical Screening Programme is an NHS service, who will send you a reminder letter every 3 years if you are 25 to 49 years of age, or every 5 years if you are 50 to 64 years of age, to advise you to come in for your smear test. Most ladies in our Practice take advantage of this very important test.

Once you have had your smear test, the samples are sent to the lab for analysis. The result will be posted to the patient’s home address from the Scottish Cervical Screening Programme approximately 6-8 weeks after the test has been done. A copy will also be sent to the practice and if necessary, we will contact you to discuss the results of your test.

Cervical smears are performed by all the GPs and Practice Nurses. Make an appointment at Reception.

Antenatal & Postnatal Care

These are run in conjunction with the Poppy Team of midwives from Stirling Royal Infirmary, to monitor your health and the progress of your pregnancy.

During the antenatal stages, we make sure that you are ‘booked in’ to the hospital and have arranged your scan dates. The frequency of antenatal appointments and involvement of midwives and other healthcare professionals will vary depending upon the pregnancy, but this will be discussed with you throughout your pregnancy.

After the birth of your baby, your Midwife and the Health Visitor will visit you at home to check that everything is okay. If you need to see your GP, this can be done either by requesting a home visit or if you feel well enough, an appointment at the surgery. At around 6-8 weeks after the birth, you should make an appointment to see your GP for a postnatal check.

Family Planning & Contraception

We offer a range of contraceptive services and your GP and Nurses can give you useful advice on the most suitable contraception methods, including the fitting or removal of coils and contraceptive implants.

We also offer emergency contraception and advice on sexually-transmitted diseases.
