Telephone Appointments

If you just wish to speak to a doctor and don’t feel you need to be examined or need to have a face-to-face appointment, you could arrange a telephone appointment where the GP will phone you back at a specified time. There are telephone appointments for available for each GP.

Cancelled Appointments

Please inform the surgery as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment. Non-attendance without cancellation of three or more appointments could result in a written warning or removal from the Practice list.

Urgent Appointments

When you call to arrange an urgent appointment, the GPs have asked the receptionists to ask you the reason for the request. This allows the receptionist to direct you to the most appropriate source of help or advice, which may include services in the community as well as within the practice, e.g. pharmacies can now give advice and medication for certain problems (see the Useful Documents section on the Further Help & Advice page). This will avoid any delay in you waiting for a GP appointment and getting the correct help quicker.

All of our receptionists have undergone training in providing this service. Receptionists will not “triage” patients, but will be able to connect you with the most appropriate professional or service without any delay. The receptionist may ask for your contact details and ask the Advanced Nurse Practitioner will call you back for an over the phone assessment.

Depending on clinical need he will either:

  • Give appropriate self care advice;
  • Arrange for you to be seen by him at his clinic later in the day;
  • Refer you to a GP; or
  • Arrange a house call for you.

You can access this service from 8:00am. It is recommended that you try to phone in as early as possible in the day.

Please note that you will still be able to make routine appointments as usual.

Requesting a Home Visit

If you need a home visit, please telephone the surgery before 10:00am if possible. This will help the Doctor plan his rounds and avoid delays in doing visits. Please note that home visits are for those who are housebound or too ill to attend surgery.

Sick Children

If your child is sick please telephone the practice as early as possible so they can be added to the triage list.
